Poikas (Boys) is an ongoing series of portraits of young men, exploring the uncertainty and vulnerability that often hide beneath the façade of post-adolescent masculinity. The subjects of these portraits are often new acquaintances, men that I meet in the city during everyday life. I often meet someone on the street or out shopping and approach them about doing a shoot and then set it up, either in the studio or outdoors, ‘location anywhere’. To me, it’s important to gain trust and create a personal bond with my subjects. It is as if we are creating a symbiosis: they have something they actually need to reveal and I need to know what it is.
